Seeing a blurry or pixelated photo from an older account?
If you're logging back in and notice your photos look blurry or pixelated, it depends on when they were uploaded and what type of account you had at the time.
If it was uploaded before 2019, what happened depends on your account type:
- If you had an active subscription: Your media was uploaded at its original size and quality, unless you chose specific upload size settings at the time.
- If you had a free account: Your media was saved and uploaded as web-sized copies. These are smaller versions made for online display, and the original wasn't retained.
If your photos are automatically backed up through WhatsApp
Make sure you change the upload quality setting on WhatsApp from Standard to HD.
- On WhatsApp, go to You
- Select Storage and data
- Under Media quality, switch to HD
