Supported File Types & Image Size Limits

Photobucket supports the most commonly-used image and video files. If you're having trouble uploading a photo, making sure we support the file type is a great first step.

Supported File Types

  • Image file types supported – "jpg", "jpeg", "png", "gif", "bmp", "HEIC", "webp"

  • Video file types supported - “avi”, “asf”, “mp4”, “mov”, “mpg”, “mpeg”, “dvd”, “vob”, “mkv”, “flv”, “swf”, “3gp”, “3gp2” "ogv", "ogg", "webm"

Upload Size Limits

  • Upload size limit for photos - 50MB

  • Upload size limit for videos - 500MB

  • The Photobucket video player runs on HTML5 which only supports playback for “mp4", “ogv”, “ogg”, and “webm” files. If your video is a different file type, you won't be able to watch it on the website using the video player.
  • "bmp" files are converted into "png" files.
  • We do not support "tif", "tiff", and "raw" file types.
  • Your file type must have the correct file extension and the internal file type must be one of the supported file types or your upload will fail. If you have a media file with an extension that is not on the supported list, use a graphic/image or video editor and try to convert it into a supported file type, then save it as the new file type, with the appropriate extension.
